Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) are licensed companies that own and operate the network of towers, transformers, cables and meters that carry electricity from the national transmission system and distribute it throughout Britain.
G98 and G99 specifically refer to different kinds of protection settings regulations that generation or storage assets must comply with in order to connect to the network. The protection settings are an important fail-safe mechanism that protect both the network and the asset from potential faults.
If you are connecting single or multiple phase generators at a single premises of up to 16A (3.68kW) per phase, you will need to complete a G98 notification form.
If you are connecting large scale generation, above 16A (3.68kW) per phase or energy storage, then you will need to complete a G99 form
We generally allow a week for residential installations, but this very much depends on the size of the installation and the type of roof.
Part of your quotation will include a roof survey. We submit measurements and photographs to a desk top surveyor who produces a report calculating wind resistance, load bearings and much more.
Once your system is installed we’ll register this with MCS. You will be able to contact your energy company and apply to them for a tariff that suits your needs. Any excess you generate you can be paid for, but hang fire as you’ll need your MCS certificate and DNO confirmation letter to apply
